Earlier this week I had the privilege to take part of the Worth Sports Summit 2017 which took place in the impressive Dr. Philips Center for Performing Arts in Orlando, Florida.

It was my pleasure to participate in a panel, moderated by Burst’s CEO and founder, Bryant Mcbride about the future of Sports business and the macro trends we are currently seeing in the industry. I shared the stage with three awesome individuals; Zachary Leonsis, VP and GP at Monumental Sports and Entertainment, Flavio Augusto da Silva, majority owner and Chairman of Orlando City SC and Gordon Smith, Executive Director & Chief Operating Officer at USTA. We each shared our experiences and expressed our view of the Sports world and the opportunities we see within it. Additionally, I gave a short overview of the startups we have in our current batch and was happy to discover the level of interest and excitement among the participants.

The summit hosted key influencers and innovators including civic leaders, sports team owners, c-level executives, athletes, entrepreneurs, academics and investors from the US and internationally, who exchanged ideas and gathered industry intelligence while forging new relationships. The 2017 summit featured presentations and panel discussions covering a range of topics including economic and cultural impact, the evolution of sports consumption and the technology that will transform how we play, watch and engage with sports in the future.

Worth summit also featured technology pitches in which high potential early stage companies presented their business plans to accomplished executives and investors. The Sports Technology Pitch Panels featured eight companies chosen by Worth that are poised to make a meaningful impact in the ecosystem of sports – great job guys!

Orlando is home to several professional sports teams and numerous organisations, academic institutions and sports industry businesses including: Orlando Magic, Orlando City SC, Orlando Pride, University of Central Florida, EA Sports, ESPN Wide World of Sports, the new USTA $60mil state of the art facility, largest in the U.S,  which includes 100 tennis courts, and the Florida Citrus Bowl among others- therefore, hosting such a Sportstech focused event is a perfect match.

During this one day event, thought leaders from around the globe gathered as speakers and guests for an interactive day to share ideas on sports innovation, build relationships and engage in discussions on how sports can foster economic growth and contribute to meaningful social impact.

I would like to thank all the participants and the great team at Worth for organising yet another amazing event – see you next year! Additionally, special thanks to my friends from Albany / Travistock Lake Nona Golf Country Club (live, work play–love it) who hosted us for a fun day of Golfing and socialising.

My Best,

Christoph
